Greece

Searching for a new property in Greece can be stressful, time-consuming and very frustrating, often requiring that you view numerous properties that don't meet your requirements. Helpxpat will save your time by assuring all properties closely suit your needs and reporting back to you with an itinerary. Our consultants in Greece have considerable market knowledge and negotiation skills.

A safer option is to use the services of a relocation agent, who will be able to speak the language and understand the local nuances of the Greece property market.

Types of accommodation in Greece

Most rental properties in resort areas, whether long or short-term, are let furnished – and often poorly equipped for permanent living – and long-term unfurnished properties are difficult to find. However, in major cities the opposite is the case, with long-term rental properties usually let unfurnished and furnished properties in short supply. Note that rental accommodation usually has no heating.

How to find a home in Greece

Expats looking for accommodation in Greece should find a reliable relocation company. Relocation Company will have the most extensive list of available housing and can also arrange viewings for prospective tenants.

Rental costs vary considerably depending on the size (number of bedrooms) and quality of a property, its age and the facilities provided. However, the most significant factor affecting rents is the region, the town and the particular neighbourhood. A small, one or two-bedroom, unfurnished apartment, e.g. 50 to 75m2, which rents for between €500 to €1,000 a month in an average Athens suburb, costs around 50 per cent less in most rural and resort areas outside the main tourist season.

You should be able to strike a good bargain when renting out of the main season, when there’s a glut of properties for rent. Some islands, e.g. Kefallonia, have a good long-term (up to 12 months) rental market and you can expect to pay from €300 a month for a one-bedroom property and from €400 a month for two bedrooms.<.p>

As well as the monthly rent, you must pay one month’s rent as a deposit. If you have a long-term contract you may have to pay up to six months’ rent in advance. Long-term tenants usually pay for their own water and electricity consumption unless utilities are paid for on a communal basis, a common practice in older apartment blocks.

Choosing a right school in Greece

The Greek educational system is mainly divided into three levels: primary, secondary and tertiary, with an additional post-secondary level providing vocational training. Primary education is divided into kindergarten lasting one or two years, and primary school spanning six years (ages 6 to 12).

International schools in Greece

International schools in Greece go hand in hand with the Golden Visa Programme. Many families decide to move to Greece altogether after acquiring their permanent residence permit. Children who do not speak Greek are welcome to go to school in Greece. They can attend International schools and universities, since courses are taught in English (or any other language like German or French, depending on the school).

The education of the next generation is undoubtedly important for a family. In an increasingly globalised world, more parents hope that their children can receive an international education as early on as possible, so that children can take the lead in future competition. In this article we will introduce the international education in Greece, hoping to give investors who are parents or soon to be parents some inspiration.

There are many International schools in Greece, especially in Northern Athens.

Greece’s international education resources are mainly concentrated in the capital city, Athens. Of the 13 international schools most are mainly distributed in the North of Athens and some in the South.
